]]>Gentlemen (and ladies), start your engines and prepare to embark on a journey into the world of motorcycle customization! Today, we're diving into the exhilarating realm of decal application, specifically tailored for the iconic Yamaha R1. So grab your toolkit, dust off your Yamaha R1, and let's unleash our inner artist as we learn how to apply decals like a pro.
Before we dive into the nitty-gritty of decal application, let's take a moment to appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of the Yamaha R1. With its sleek lines, powerful engine, and cutting-edge technology, the R1 is a true masterpiece of motorcycle engineering. But why settle for factory stock when you can add a personal touch with custom decals and stickers?
Before you can transform your Yamaha R1 into a rolling work of art, you'll need to gather a few essential supplies:
- High-quality motorcycle decals and stickers of your choice
- Rubbing alcohol or adhesive remover
- Clean, lint-free cloths
- Scissors or a utility knife
- Masking tape or painter's tape
- Squeegee or credit card
- Hairdryer (optional)
Before applying any decals or stickers, it's crucial to ensure that the surface of your Yamaha R1 is clean and free of dirt, grease, and debris. Use rubbing alcohol or adhesive remover to thoroughly clean the areas where you'll be applying the decals, such as the fairings, tank, and rims. Once the surface is clean, dry it thoroughly with a clean cloth to remove any residue.
Now that your surface is prepped and ready, it's time to plan out your decal design. Whether you're going for a subtle accent or a bold statement, take some time to visualize how you want your Yamaha R1 to look once the decals are applied. Experiment with different placements and combinations until you find a design that speaks to you.
Once you've settled on a design, it's time to start applying the decals. Begin by carefully peeling the backing off the decal, taking care not to damage the design. If your decal is large or intricate, you may find it helpful to use masking tape or painter's tape to hold it in place while you work.
Next, carefully position the decal on the surface of your Yamaha R1, taking care to align it correctly. Once you're happy with the placement, use a squeegee or credit card to smooth out any air bubbles and ensure a secure bond between the decal and the surface. Work from the center outwards, pressing firmly to remove any wrinkles or creases.
If you're applying decals to curved or contoured surfaces, such as the rims or fairings, you may need to use a hairdryer to soften the adhesive and help the decal conform to the shape of the surface. Simply heat the decal with the hairdryer for a few seconds until it becomes pliable, then use your fingers or a squeegee to press it into place.
Once all of your decals are applied, take a step back and admire your handiwork. Marvel at how your Yamaha R1 has been transformed from a stock machine into a personalized work of art that reflects your unique style and personality. And don't forget to give yourself a pat on the back for mastering the art of decal application like a true pro.
In conclusion, applying decals to your Yamaha R1 is a fun and rewarding way to customize your ride and make it truly your own. With a bit of patience, practice, and creativity, you can turn your Yamaha R1 into a rolling masterpiece that turns heads wherever you go. So grab your decals, fire up your Yamaha R1, and let your imagination run wild as you embark on the ultimate customization adventure.

The Journey or Destination?
Aside from thinking about the “where” of the journey, it’s just as important to consider the “how long” of the journey, so you can get an idea of what kind of journey you are about to face. If you have limited days and your destination is far, that would mean a long journey with much fewer stops in between. This could also be cause for more of a time crunch rather than a slow ride. It’s best to think of a balance between the two, so you have more flexibility to see the sights, have allocated time for some rest, or do whatever else you want to do on the way to your destination. It is a leisure ride anyway, so it should also be about the journey itself and not just the destination. Unless of course, you really are in a time crunch.
How Will You Get There?
Now that you have a general idea of where you want to go and how long you have, it’s time to think about the different routes available to you. This depends on what riding style you prefer. If you’re a speed demon that wants to ride fast and get to every stop as fast as you can, then taking the highways is probably a good choice for you. Highways are typically long and flat, and they can be a little underwhelming. If you’re in it for the cruise, then take the backroads, coastal roads, or other popular motorcycle routes with the right scenic setting, less traffic, and curves that flow with you. Splitting up your journey into legs, with breaks in between, can help for a more relaxing experience.
How Are The Road, Weather and Traffic Conditions?
It’s always a good idea to check the road, weather, and traffic conditions before heading out on your journey. Doing a quick Google search, checking out some ride forums or groups, and apps such as Waze or Google Maps can do wonders for you, and perhaps help you avoid getting into problems like storms or pothole-ridden roads. This can also save you from unwanted traffic, and helps keep you safe from accident-prone areas. Be smart about your choices, take precautions and keep your safety as the number one priority.
Now that you have a rough idea of what it takes for a well-planned journey, you need to remember to always expect the unexpected. Sometimes taking an extra night at a place you like, or detours to interesting locales are good for the soul and become memorable things from your trip. Just enjoy the ride, and ride what you enjoy.

]]>At first glance, the question that serves as the title of this article may seem a little strange, ridiculous, whimsical even. It may conjure up such feelings of confusion, accompanied by sudden head-cocking, eyebrow-raising, and eye-squinting involuntary reactions.
But fret not, fellow Rider, for there is a more profound explanation behind the posing of this question, a nuanced inquiry that we intend to explore in the following sections below.
So, you’ve bought a bike.
But what comes next?
Before you take your shiny, new beast out for a spin, you might want to consider if your bike is truly ready to be unveiled to the world. If your answer is “Yes, it is ready!”, then this article may not be for you. However, if your answer lies between the pendulum swings of No to Uncertain, then you might want to consider accessorizing your bike, specifically, with the right kinds of stickers.
So, What Kind of Sticker Are You?
Decorating your motorcycle may seem like a task or “added bonus” that does not require much thought at all, and to be fair, there are those of us who have never even considered it as an afterthought. However, we would like to offer our own take on why you should be ornamenting your bike straight away and the choices available to do so.
At Stickman Vinyls, we believe that the right kind of sticker goes a long way. Much like the way you would carefully plan your outfit before leaving your home for an event, choosing the appropriate stickers that match your bike’s overall aesthetic should be equally as important.
Types of Stickers You Can Choose From
Outer Rim Stickers are a neat way to enhance the overall presentation of your motorcycle’s rim. It can add a touch of color to an otherwise homochromatic rim, providing the plain feature with some colorful definition. This type of sticker would be a good option for riders who are seeking to provide only the slightest change to their bike’s manufactured aesthetic.
Inner Rim Stickers function in much of the same way as Outer Rim Stickers, but with an added benefit that we at Stickman Vinyls believe needs to be expressed. Other than adding a hint of color to your superbike’s rim, the Inner Rim Sticker aids in highlighting the hidden dimensions on a rim. When applied correctly, this sticker helps in revealing the intricate curvature and other design elements that could potentially be glossed over if the sticker was never applied.
Decals are the perfect way in which to enhance the appearance of your bike’s chassis and body. To put it simply, applying decals to your bike’s body helps to uplift what is obviously the most noticeable part of your motorcycle, making you stand out from the crowd with options for reflective or non-reflective stickers.
Tank pads are an interesting choice for riders as it serves as both a practical aspect as well as an aesthetic one. Aside from boosting your bike’s appearance with numerous colors and designs, tank pads can prevent damage from occurring on your tank such as scratches and paint chips. Furthermore, it can also serve as a way to prevent you from sliding while on your motorcycle, providing you with enough grip and control for a much smoother ride.
What is the Bigger Picture?
In all honesty, the stickers you ultimately apply onto your motorcycle will become a symbol of your identity, one that you will carry with you as you cruise through the streets of your local stamping grounds or when you find yourself thundering down a freeway at 200mph.
At the very least, choosing the most suitable stickers for your bike will remove any unwanted feelings of regret or dissatisfaction you may experience with your accessories down the line and offer the added benefit of saving you a couple of well-earned dollars in the long run.
With that being said, what kind of sticker are you, truly?
If you are interested in customizing your motorcycle’s appearance with the subtle but right kind of stickers, then you should definitely head on over to our online store, where great stickers sold at an affordable price.
There are endless combinations when it comes to personalizing decals for your motorcycle. To prevent overwhelm, let us walk you through the different ways you may want to approach this.
There are no rules as to how you should be personalizing your bike with decals, it’s really up to you. Of course, there is a recommended technique in the application of decals on your bike that ensures it aligns and sticks correctly, which we have covered in our previous article.
However, if you are still figuring out what sort of decals to use for your bike, here are some simple considerations that you may find useful.
Complement or Renew Look?
Based on our customers’ experiences, you will likely have two scenarios:
The first: you want to complement and enhance your existing bike’s decals (brand/model/cc) with additional stickers on other parts of your bike.
The second: you want something fairly or totally new and want to remove all or some of the existing decals on your bike.
In both scenarios, you are either just adding complementary decals, or subtracting some (if not all) of your bike’s existing decals and replacing them with totally different decals in terms of color scheme and designs.
To complement the existing decal design and base paint on your bike, you can also look for different sticker colors and designs that will tastefully add a new dimension to how your bike looks without overkilling it.
Let’s take the bike pictured above as an example. Its body is phantom black with red accents on the side cowl-fairings. Existing original silver and white decals are seen on the phantom black tank, and white and black ones on the red cowl-fairings.
If reflective orange decals (below, left)—something outside of the bike’s existing color scheme—were applied on the outer and inner rim, they would transform the bike’s appearance, adding a fiery, racing feel to the bike.
Top: Reflective Orange
Bottom: Reflective Red
If that is not your thing, and you prefer to stay within the bike’s color scheme, pick a white or red (above, right) rim decal color.
Custom Text or Bike Model Text?
If you want to express something more personal, especially on your inner rim stickers, you can have your name or initials or even words that inspire you as custom made decals.
If you are a purist, then you will want to emphasize the model of your motorcycle: (Suzuki) GSX 1000, (BMW) S1000R, (Triumph) Speed Triple R, and so on.
Flaunt Your Fonts or Not?
Next will be deciding on the decal’s font design options to match your preferred design direction.
Do you want something that will push the bike out of its comfort zone a little, as far as font designs are concerned, or get something close within the present font design scheme?
Loud and Bold or Subtle-Minimalist?
Would you like to keep it simple and subtle, with just an outer rim liner?
Or, if you have something bolder and louder in mind, you can start with a .
Your Bike, Your Style
These are just some basic, but useful pointers to help you along with your bike’s decal choices. Create a look that works for your bike and represents your style.
If it helps, take a photo of your bike and visualize how the stickers would look on the respective bike parts.
Feel free to contact us if you need more help or have questions. Have a good one!
]]>When choosing stickers, you want to opt for the high quality ones because they are generally more durable. High quality stickers don’t decolorize under hot and cold weather so easily, and are usually able to withstand abrasive usage. On top of that, they also usually look better because they come with a layer of laminate film to protect the vibrant colors. However, it’s advisable that you do your part to ensure that your stickers last even longer, and maintain their appeal. Here are some dos and don’ts for your bike stickers.
Do’s
Before we even get to the dos and don’ts, you must properly apply your stickers. Proper application will ensure that the stickers are not easily damaged, and is the best way to keep stickers from peeling and remain firmly in place. Here’s a full step-by-step process for proper sticker application.
Literally just wash with water and light soap. Most stickers are washable. Thoroughly clean the area to make sure that it’s clear of any debris, dirt or mud, but do not scrub. Rinse and clean with a microfiber cloth to dry. Remember to only wash using low pressure water and perpendicular to the stickers, without focusing the spray along the edges of the stickers.
Ever heard of a sticker protection tape? It’s not very common, but it’s not uncommon either. Some stores have it, you just gotta ask for it. The protection tape works as an added transparent layer of protection for your stickers to prevent the edges from lifting, and as a scratch-resistant surface. At Stickman Vinyls, we have our very own unique Protect Tape. Just drop us a line.
We know that not everyone has the privilege of an indoor parking space for their bike, but as far as possible, try to park your motorcycle in a shaded or covered area. Daily exposure to the sun for long hours will take its toll on not just your stickers, but also on the plastic and rubber parts of your bike.
You can either buy pre-laminated stickers, or laminate your existing stock of stickers. Lamination provides the stickers with an added layer of protection, subsequently making them robust and more durable to abrasion. Here’s 3 reasons why laminated stickers are better than regular stickers.
Don’ts
Do not ever scrub your stickers with anything. Not even with a microfiber cloth. If there are any tough stains on the sticker, use a microfiber cloth and apply a little more weight, but not too much. As far as possible, try to gently wash the stickers with a sponge. Other abrasive cleaning materials are a big no. Pressure washer, also another big no.
This is pretty self-explanatory. Everybody knows how stickers work. You keep wiping against the edges, the edges will eventually lift. And once that happens, the stickers are not going to stick properly again.
After applying a new set of stickers, do not clean them for at least 5 days. In fact, try to ride the bike as little as possible for the 5 days. Let the stickers properly stick onto the surface before being tested by any kind of external force.
If you find that there are any kind of contaminants like oil, tree sap, or bird droppings on your sticker, don’t leave it there - clean it up immediately. Stickers can be quickly damaged by contaminants and even worse, be permanently discolored. Also, delaying the cleaning process might cause the contaminant to fuse with the sticker, ultimately resulting in removing the sticker.

Here’s our pick of top 5 cruisers to ride in 2020.
Although not as popular as the rest of its rivals, the XV950 is far from inferior. Built almost as a typical Yamaha, this cruiser comes with a 90-degree V-Twin engine that was introduced in 2014, fitted onto a very comfortable motorcycle, and performs very well for a 900cc motorbike. One of the key winning points for this model is the price point. It’s a lot cheaper than the rest of the motorcycles you will see in this list. Great entry level bike, and the acceleration will surprise and embarrass its brethren.
Key Specifications:
Triumph has been around for almost 3 decades, but only in recent times did they step up their game and introduce an array of motorcycles that quickly rose in popularity because they were able to match the likes of Harley-Davidsion and other big brands. The Bonneville Speedmaster carries a typical British character, and performs as expected of a 1200cc bike, but at a reasonable price. The bike has gone through a major tune up since the 2015 model, and now delivers peak torque of 106Nm at 4,000rpm. And oh, it also has traction control.
Key Specifications:
First and foremost, let’s establish that the Diavel 1260s falls under the category of ‘premium’. At more than twice the price of the Yamaha XV950, the Ducati Diavel comes with an array of features that justify the high price such as cornering ABS, Ohlins suspension, Brembo M50 brakes, LED running lights, etc. On top of that, the bike clocks a whopping top speed of 169 mph, making it the fastest motorcycle on this list. It’s a Ducati. We don’t expect anything less than premium performance on a comfortable chassis. If you think that the Diavel 1260s is way out of your budget, maybe consider the XDiavel or XDiavel S instead.
Key Specifications:
The second Triumph to make this list. What can we say, except that they really do produce great bikes. The Rocket 3 comes with a huge DOHC inline 3 cylinder engine, and delivers the expected amount of power. The key differences between the GT and R variants are the riding position, seat height, and handlebars. The R is built sportier, while the GT has slight resemblance to a tourer and even comes with a pillion backrest. Great acceleration and responsiveness, but not very economical.
Key Specifications:
So fresh, so clean, the BMW R18 is a brand new motorcycle, only introduced this year. Look at the bike and you will see that BMW is trying to take on two categories at the same time - choppers and cruisers. The R18 is however still categorized as a cruiser, and performs as such. With an enormous boxer engine powering the motorcycle, the R18 is the heaviest motorcycle to make the list. It doesn’t have a great top speed, but it’s pretty economical.

You can call them whatever - vinyls, decals, stickers, it does not matter. What matters is the quality of the product, and whether it will remain vibrant and intact through abrasive and high speed riding, and under sunshine and rain. High quality stickers are not hard to find, you just need to know what makes a good sticker. So here are 9 tips to help you identify good stickers.
First of all, a sticker needs to stick properly onto a smooth surface. If it doesn't, it’s not going to last a week on your motorcycle. You need something with a strong adhesive that will not peel easily especially around the edges. However, you don’t want something with cheap adhesive that leaves residue when peeled. Stickers aren’t going to last forever, so you will eventually need to remove or replace them, and nobody needs the extra work of cleaning up sticky residue..
Surely everyone is familiar with bubbles appearing from wrongly applying stickers. What an eyesore. But thank goodness for technology. High quality stickers today incorporate bubble-free technology, so you don’t have to worry about bubbles. Aside from that, the sticker needs to be easily applicable, so a slightly stretchable sticker is good, especially for uneven or curved surfaces.
Like all printed material, stickers have a variety of printing quality too. Naturally, the better the quality of print, the more vibrant the colors will look. Good quality printing also ensures that the colors last a long time before they start fading over time.
Oh, how annoying and frustrating it can be when your stickers just refuse to peel off the backing paper. Whether your stickers are die-cut or kiss-cut, they should come off the backing paper with little effort, regardless of the strength of the adhesive. When using stickers with good adhesive, you will need good quality backing paper as well, which brings us to our next point.
High quality backing paper is crucial to safeguard and boost the overall strength of any unpeeled sticker. With high quality backing paper, there will be no creases, and the stickers will be well protected from any damage during storage. Also, to ride on point number 4, good quality backing paper helps with the peeling process especially if the stickers come with high quality and strong adhesive.
Sticker odor does not bother everyone. In fact, some even like the smell of new stickers. But for those like me who don’t particularly enjoy the smell, high quality stickers will help with that. The odor normally comes from two things - the adhesive, and the printing. If you are not a fan of the new sticker odor, opt for stickers with odorless printing. Odorless printing normally costs a little bit more.
The bare minimum requirement for a sticker to be rated as high quality is that it shouldn’t fade or crack, right? It’s impossible to find stickers that will last forever, so what Stickman Vinyls accepts as the minimum lifespan of a sticker is 1 year. Any good quality sticker should last without fading or cracking for at least a year, even through the rough riding and unpredictable weather.
These are two properties that are important in protecting the sticker from weather damage.A UV-Protection Laminate works even better because the laminate layer also protects the sticker from light scratches and tearing. Coupled with water proofing, you can park your bike outside with nothing to worry about.
If the sticker looks and feels cheap, it’s likely a low quality product. Just by looking and touching stickers, you should be able to tell the difference between the premium and low quality ones. So look out for a premium feel and look. If you are ordering online, maybe check out the reviews or get in touch with the seller. At Stickman Vinyls, we sell nothing less than premium.

A motorcycle is a one of a kind possession. The kind that we have thought about for a long time before finally mustering the confidence and strength to make the purchase. The kind that we obsess over and get overly attached to. If you’re a bike owner, you would definitely share the sentiment. But as we are aware, the available motorcycles are never manufactured specifically for us. They’re not special. They are manufactured for the mass market and no matter how much we wish that our bike is one of a kind, it’s just like every other of the same make and model, owned by thousands of others.
So, we look for ways to fulfill the longing of personalizing our motorcycle to make it really, truly ours. We want to be known as that rider with that bike. We want our motorcycle to be recognizable by other riders as “hey, that’s Lucy’s bike. Cool piece of work.” And so, we begin our personalization journey by sourcing for customizable aftermarket parts with different designs and colours to combine and make our machine unique. Before we know it, we’ve spent a couple of thousand bucks....yikes!
There is however a less expensive option - and they’re called stickers! Stickers are pretty much the most versatile option of personalization, and can be replaced at any time. Imagine that. Cheap and replaceable. Not exactly our mantra at Stickman Vinyls but we’re happy to vouch for it.
Here, we would like to share with our audience about one of our loyal customers. Meet the beast of Brett, from Australia. Brett rides a Kawasaki Z1000 (of course he does), and over the years he has used stickers to personalize his motorcycle, giving it a look that resonates with his personality. Check out the before and after pictures.
Each of our rim stickers come as a set for both your front and rear wheel, and with spares - you know., in case mistakes are made and you never want to speak about it again. We got your back. The images you see above are before and after Brett successfully applied the stickers by himself.
In the image above, you will see that Brett added stickers that are not too splashy or colorful. Aside from the Stickman rim stickers, he added a Monster Energy Sticker, a Cancer Awareness Sticker, and a Grey Decepticons Sticker. All very subtle additions to the bike, but granting a completely different look.
This is pretty cool. He started with a Blue Outer Rim Sticker and a Stock Exhaust Pipe, and then removed the outer rim sticker, and customized his exhaust pipe to an aftermarket Tri-hole Pipe. Then, he added a White Outer Rim Sticker, before finally adding Stickman’s Dual Pack Inner Rim Sticker and a Kawasaki decal.
As you can see, Brett did not extravagantly spend on his motorcycle, but he did achieve his goal of personalizing his motorcycle. You can do it too. Need stickers? We can hook you up.
Stickman Vinyls has more than 200 designs of stickers available for you to choose from. All you gotta do is drop us a message. We ship globally and are more than happy to ship to you.
Special thanks to Brett from Australia for sharing with us what he has done to personalize his ride. Check out his Instagram profile for more photos: @brettski_z1000.

Before we begin, we’re gonna make a bold claim - laminated stickers are generally better.
So, first, let’s understand what lamination in stickers means. Lamination is the process of applying a clear protective layer onto printed vinyls. It is more commonly done as a finishing touch to enhance the sticker in terms of durability and visibility. Laminated stickers are better protected and the graphics remain intact over time. Allow us to elaborate further why you need to opt for lamination.
Laminate is an important component in any high quality sticker work and even more so when considering a motorcycle wrap job. In fact, it is absolutely essential on stickers that will be exposed to the outdoor elements such as wind, rain, and shine. The laminate layer adds thickness that strengthens and increases the rigidity of the product, subsequently reinforcing its structure. It also protects and extends the lifespan of the printed materials. A well laminated sticker is even durable against high-pressure wash and strong chemical cleaners. Give yourself peace of mind knowing that you can send your bike for cleaning, even frequently, without damaging your stickers.
This is especially true with MX graphics as these bikes are put to test in harsh environments which makes them more susceptible to abrasion, especially with the rider’s suit and equipment constantly coming in contact and rubbing against them. On top of that, MX riders ride on terrains that collect a lot of dirt, and a lot of high-pressure washing is usually needed. But not to worry, laminate is there to save the day.
Additionally, laminate protects your stickers from the effects of UV light, preserving the color vibrance of the graphics over a long period of time. Sunlight can be very damaging to stickers, especially when exposed for long hours.
Aside from protecting it well, laminate enhances the physical outlook of the product. Laminate is transparent, but it improves the appearance of the sticker by giving it a more vibrant look with deeper and brighter colors. And because it is transparent, there is no weird tint or blemishing of the original colors. It’s an easy upgrade, but makes the sticker look a lot more premium. Also, lamination comes in various finishes, such as:
Graphic vinyls that have been laminated have better strength and stiffness, making them easier to apply with a lower potential of making mistakes. A well laminated vinyl will not fold, have wrinkles, or creases. Also, because it makes the final product thicker, it prevents the vinyl from being overstretched or torn during installation. Overstretched stickers will damage the adhesive, causing the stickers to peel from the edges. You definitely don’t want that. Here are 5 steps to properly apply your sticker.
Bonus Point: When is Lamination Not Required?
For most cases, lamination is a no brainer, but it’s not always necessary. Graphics that are intended to be used only temporarily do not need to be laminated. In general, non-laminated vinyls are strong enough to withstand short term usage and UV exposure without the print quality being affected. Sometimes, it may even last up to a few weeks without any visible damage.
The different printing methods used can determine whether lamination is necessary. For example, Ultraviolet (UV) printing - a unique method of digital printing utilising UV light to dry or cure ink almost instantly once it hits the printing material. In this case, lamination is not necessary to preserve the print or color quality.
Another example is cut-stickers. Cut-stickers require no lamination to increase their strength and durability. This is due to the nature of how the material is made. Lamination might actually make the stickers a little too thick, making the application process difficult on an uneven surface.
Over the years, digital printing methods have evolved and improved significantly. The printing methods are now able to produce quality graphics that are outdoor-durable, and while some may still need lamination, many others don’t. Hence, it's important to understand the use of the stickers and the type of application to help you decide if lamination is necessary.
The most annoying thing that can happen after excitedly, and successfully applying your stickers onto your motorcycle is...the lifting of the edges. The unsightly imperfection that bugs everyone who has ever stuck a sticker in their life. You can’t reapply it because the adhesive would be gone, and you can’t just leave it there because it has become an eye-sore. The good news is, it’s not the end of the world. There are ways to fix that. But that’s for another day. Today, we’re gonna talk about preventing lifting in the first place. Here are 7 tips to help prevent the edges of your stickers from lifting.
First and foremost, make sure that the application area is THOROUGHLY cleaned before attempting to apply your sticker. Any dirt, grease, oil, or any kind of impurities present will interfere with the adhesive of the sticker. Usually, cleaning with soap and water does the trick, but that depends on what you are dealing with. If you are removing an old sticker before sticking on a new one, you need to properly remove your sticker first. If the surface has any abrasion, you may need to use a high-grade sandpaper to carefully smoothen it out (more on that in point 4). Using organic solvents are not recommended because they tend to leave a layer of film that may interfere with the adhesive.
Surface temperature plays an important role in ensuring that the sticker's adhesive reacts correctly to the surface. Stickers stick best when applied in room temperature. The adhesive may not bond well with the surface if the application is done on a cold or hot surface. So, if your desired surface is hot, let it cool down to room temperature and if it is too cold, you can use a hairdryer to gently heat up the area before assembly. Be careful not to overheat the area though. Well even if you did, just let it cool down again. Easy peasy.
Improper application may result in the sticker folding, air bubbles, or lifting of edges. Don’t rush the application process, and here is a step by step process on how to properly apply stickers. Rest assured, if you apply your sticker properly, you will have a perfectly placed accessory that will stay on for a long time.
Smooth areas provide the best surfaces for stickers to bond. Oddly shaped, porous, or rough-textured surfaces will very likely cause bonding issues because uneven surfaces allow wind or air to pass through under the sticker making it more susceptible to lifting. How do you fix that? You need to even out the surface. Maybe use multiple grades of sandpaper to smoothen it out, and be sure to wash it clean before applying your sticker.
Clear protect tape is great to prevent lifting. Applying it ensures that the edges won’t lift, and it also serves as an added coat of protection. Alternatively, you can apply clear coating over your stickers. Apply it carefully, because you don’t get to remove and apply it again.
Stickers that are not stored properly will lose their adhesiveness. If you have purchased stickers and plan to apply them later, you should remember to store them in a cool and dry place, away from sunlight. Also, be careful not to accidentally fold or crease them. Folded stickers will weaken the structure of the adhesive.
If you plan to clean your motorcycle or give it a quick wash down, wait at least 3-5 days before doing it. Give the adhesive of the sticker some time to properly bond with the surface without any interference. Even after it has properly bonded, don’t pressure wash or scrub the area around the sticker with anything that may cause the edges to lift or damage it. Be a bit more gentle when cleaning the areas with stickers, and DO NOT wipe against sharp edges because they will lift. Of course, you can always use clear protect tape or coating for added protection.
]]>The best thing about accessorizing your motorcycle with stickers is that they can be replaced at any time with very little effort, and don’t cost a bomb. Here are 5 steps to safely remove your old sticker before installing your new ones.
Tools/Items you will need:
Step 1: Loosening the Sticker with a Suitable Lubricant
After months or years, your stickers are going to be tough to remove, especially if they have strong adhesive. So what you want to do is generously spray and outline the sticker with a multi-purpose lubricant such as the WD-40 solution. Let it soak for a few minutes. Try removing the soaked sticker, it might come right off. If it doesn’t, try step 2.
Step 2: Heating up the Sticker
Heat up the sticker using a heat gun or hair dryer, but do it carefully, Both heat guns and hair dryers can become extremely hot when they are too close to contact, so if necessary, do it for a few seconds at a time. Heating up the sticker allows the adhesive to melt and become removable. Again, be extra careful when working on parts that can be damaged by heat. Do not use any kind of fire, or direct contact with a hot object. You may risk getting injured, or damaging your bike.
Step 3: Start Peeling
Once the adhesive has melted, you will find that the corners are easier to peel. Use either your nails or a blunt, flat object that will not damage your motorcycle like an old credit card to carefully lift any edge of the sticker, and slowly peel it from the edge. If it feels like it’s getting stickier halfway through, repeat the heating process. Remember, DO NOT use a sharp or hard object that may damage your bike when peeling the sticker.
Step 4: Another Round of Lubricant
There is bound to be residue of adhesive after you are done peeling a sticker. So, use the same lubricant you used to soak the sticker and apply on the residue, and gently scrub it off with a cloth. This is where the patience comes into play. All your hard work will pay off. If the residue still won’t come off, you can try using any nail polish remover - it should work like a charm.
Step 5: A Little Wax to Finish (Optional)
Not necessary if you are applying a new sticker, but if you are not, you might want to wax the surface of which the sticker has just been removed. It will help blend that surface with the rest of the motorcycle, and give it a nice shine. While you’re at it, wax your entire motorcycle because why not?
]]>You just received your new set of stickers. The problem is, you have to apply the stickers by yourself, and if there’s anything you know about stickers, it’s that you only get one shot at applying them onto your desired surface properly, or you’re gonna screw up and have to throw them out! Let’s talk about steps you can take to reduce the possibility of screwing up.
Items you will need
Step 1: Cleaning the Surface Area
First, use a dry cloth to remove any loose debris. Next, clean the surface area with your prepared cleaning solution. Wipe off any dirt, oil, or whatever foreign residue that has come loose from using the cleaning solution. Lastly, wipe the surface clean with a dry cloth. Make sure the area is completely dry and clean.
Step 2: Applying the Sticker
Hold up the stickers to the desired area and use masking tape to mark the area (optional). Don’t rush into peeling the sticker because you only get one shot, remember? Repositioning the sticker may cause the adhesive to lose its stickiness. Peel the sticker from the backing paper halfway through, position the sticker over the surface, and press it gently on the surface with your fingers and smoothen it out. If you are going to peel the entire sticker beforehand, we recommend using masking tape as a transfer tape, to transfer the sticker without using your fingers.
Step 3: Smoothing Out and Removing Air Bubbles
If you have used a transfer tape, before removing it, be sure to smoothen the sticker with a squeegee or old credit card. If you used your finger to apply the sticker into position, still use a squeegee or credit card to gently smoothen it. Press firmly but gently and push any air bubbles present out from underneath the sticker. Carefully peel the transfer tape while ensuring no edges are lifted along the process.
Step 4: Letting the Sticker Set in Position
Leave the sticker overnight for the sticker to set in, check from time to time if any air bubbles are forming. Don’t wash the area immediately after application. For good measure, try to wait at least 3 days before cleaning. If more air bubbles are visible, push them out with the same method immediately. If the air bubbles seem to be trapped and there is absolutely no way of getting them out, use a safety pin or needle to puncture the air bubble and gently push the air out with your fingers. Note that this may damage your sticker, so be very careful about it. If you think it’s not necessary, don’t do it.
Step 5: Applying a Clear Protective Tape (Optional)
An optional step for added safety in case your bike is parked outdoors and exposed to potential damage. Applying a layer of clear protective tape is mainly to prevent the sharp edges from lifting, and to protect the sticker itself. Apply the tape, and again gently smoothen it out and ensure that air bubbles are completely pushed out. There are various kinds of protective tape, so choose the one suitable to your use - whether you want to leave it on, or remove it once the sticker is set in position. For the purpose of neatness, you may cut the tape in an outline following the shape of your sticker.
